Following an earlier posting (Marc Sira) I implemented the suggestion of turning off Error correction and Data compression in the OT/PPP Control Panel. I was assured that there was already error correction built in to the PPP/TCP software. ..I can report favourably for anyone who might be interested that browsing speed has indeed improved considerably, with no detrimental results. Before I did this I would appear to be connected at a high rate, but internet pages were being diabolically slowed behind the scenes by blers (bit link errors). This no longer happens and pages now load very smoothly indeed. Thanks Marc. (As for the cause, speaking as a relative layman my guess is that the Duo 2xxx serial port(s) aren't as efficient as other machines and I therefore look forward to ethernet connections to adding even further longevity to my apple - to the envy of my Wintel colleagues, no doubt). iain bruce ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
