Someone posted a comment on the MacOS on this list recently. At least I think it was this list. Anyhow, it was a comment which I have heard several times with slight variations. The poster said, "The MacOS is getting as bad as Windows." My question is, "What is bad about the MacOS?" If "bad" means "large, like Windows" then that is true. If "bad" means, "got lots of extensions and patches to the system folder, like Windows," that is probably true too. But as far as I am concerned, the MacOS just gets better and better. It's faster and far stabler than anything which went before it. It's brilliant. Another often seen negative comment concerns the MacOS's memory handling. VM seems to handle everything just fine. With 80 megs of RAM on my 2400c, I'd soon run out of memory without VM. 8.6 does crash from time to time, it's true, but ONLY when I do something "experimental." There are some system patches which are a little dangerous, like Kaleidoscope and certain home made appearance themes. The ONLY time I get crashes is when I play around with these things. Otherwise it's a very reliable system indeed. Are these guys referring to the MacOS under the hood? Are these people programmers and does the MacOS violate some programming esthetic or other?
