hey guys/gals,

I've got an aging powerbook 280c running macos 8.0. At any rate, I've
gotten to the point where the battery won't recharge anymore. When I slide
the battery in, the machine will claim to be charging it for about 20
seconds, then it'll just show an empty battery in the meter. If I leave
the battery in and unplug the machine, it just turns off, which most
likely means that the battery is completely dead. I'm reluctant to take it
in for repair, because consultation alone will cost half of what the
laptop is worth (about $100). I was thinking maybe it could be a dead
backup battery (because if I leave it unplugged for a long time, the clock
resets)? some friends say it might be a "bad power board".

other than the occational crash, the laptop is in perfect working order.

any ideas?

thanks so much,
eizan
