This caught my attention: >There's no real problem with the Adaptec PC Card solution *EXCEPT* >for the ability to SCSI boot. Yes, I've taken the plunge and ordered a new Powerbook G3 with the intention of using it as a portable/desktop replacement. My trusty Duo 2300C will still be what I take on long trips though...the weight advantage is still pretty significant. But back on topic. I too have SCSI peripherals that I need to use. I could replace the Zip drive and CDR drive with USB or Firewire equivalents but I've already sucked enough cash out of my bank account to buy the new 'book and I have a slide scanner that there's no way I'm going to replace anytime soon. So, I'm in search of a way to adapt SCSI to the new machine and I'm most interested in SCSI Cardbus adapters. I've heard nothing good about USB-SCSI converters and I have no experience with the Orange Micro SCSI to Firewire converter, but since I'm still trying to get my second Orange Micro Firewire/USB card working in my desktop (the first one was defective) I'm not holding my breath. I see the Ratoc card for sale in the usual places, but I've had a hard time finding the Mac version of the Adaptec card actually on sale. It is listed on their web site but the only ones I have actually seen for sale are the PC version. I'm assuming that I need at least a different driver. So, I would greatly appreciate any experience folks have had with getting SCSI connected up to one of the new machines....though I guess there really wasn't much need for this before now so I may end up being one of the pioneers. Ouch...I hate those arrows in my back! Thanks! Lorenzo Dunn ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
