For the time being I believe that Apple has issued a TIL note and a "patch"
that disables this feature as it does not work reliably. This patch seems
only to simply disable the preserve memory contents on sleep option in the
Energy Saver control panel's advanced options . You can deselect this
option manually and probably achieve the same affect.

Prior to finding this "solution" I also noticed that preserve RAM on sleep
feature works only with Virtual Memory turned on. Does that cut us
RamDoubler folks off?

Apple has identified a very rare issue that may occur when putting an iBook
or new PowerBook (FireWire) to sleep that could prevent the computer from
recognizing the hard drive at startup. To avoid this situation, Apple
strongly recommends that all iBook and new PowerBook (FireWire) customers
install the Sleep Memory Extension.

Who Needs to Install the Sleep Memory Extension? All iBook and PowerBook
(FireWire) users should install the Sleep Memory Extension.

After restarting your computer, the "Preserve memory contents on sleep"
checkbox will still appear in the Energy Saver control panel, but the
checkbox will be dimmed and unavailable.
