I'm not totally sure, but I think the new system chipset used in 
Pismo and the iBook does actually have some new features needed to 
support this.

It does seem like any computer could do it, at first glance. 
However, the "preserve memory" feature has to be able to recover from 
a true power-off, not just sleep.  That means that more information 
than just the RAM contents must be saved; the internal state of every 
peripheral in the computer must either be brought to a reproducible 
state or be saved before shutting down, so that the recovery software 
can bring everything back to where it was.

The trouble is that a lot of peripheral hardware is designed without 
the ability to record the current state for later restoration.  It 
may be difficult or impossible to read back complete state 
information, restore it, or both.
