Normally, I think the 1.1 GB HD should spin up (installed in the dock)
sometime between 10 and 20 seconds after pushing the start button. About
one time in five it doesn't start on the initial attempt and the Sad Mac
icon comes on along with the ominous sounding chimes. After resetting
and restarting, the HD spins up normally after 10 seconds every time.
The other four out of five times, the HD starts normally on the first
try after about 20 seconds.

I did a clean install of 8.1, ran Disk First Aid and performed Drive
Setup/Update Driver (v1.7.3). These all ran fine.

Any experiences out there of a "sticky" HD motor? It acts like that on
the first try sometimes but never seems sticky on the second try's.

Another weird symptom: about one time in 10 starts, the HD will start
normally but the mouse cursor sticks at the upper RH corner. After
resetting and restarting it's always been fine on the second try.

I can live with these problems but I'm concerned that the HD may be
getting ready to go tango uniform on me. If this is the case, I'd prefer
to proactively replace it before it does. I'm fully backed on Zip discs,
just in case.

Clues? Suggestions?
