More likely it's that nobody can make money on SCSI Ethernet adapters any more. They're more expensive to design and manufacture than PCI or CardBus Ethernet cards (custom design vs. standard parts), and since there aren't crowds of people spending money upgrading non-PCI/CardBus computers any more, it would be pretty hard to make any money off them. Also, since we're now getting to the point where used PCI Macs are quite cheap, anybody making an upgrade for older computers has to consider that if the price is too high customers are going to upgrade the whole machine instead. Many years ago I knew some people who were looking for a NuBus video card so their IIsi could drive a 21" monitor; they ended up just buying a whole Quadra 605 because its built-in video could do the job, it was a much faster computer, and it didn't cost much more than a NuBus video card did. >Any chance we'll see USB or Firewire Ethernet adapters now >that these bus speeds can keep up with 100Mbs? USB can't. USB is only 12 Mbps, and if the phase of the moon is right you might be able to actually get 7-8 Mbps of actual throughput on it. There are USB Ethernet adapters, but they're only marketed for PCs. There's not much incentive for the people making them to do Mac drivers, since every Mac with a USB port built in also has a 100Base-T port built in. FireWire could keep up, but I'm not aware of any FW Ethernet adapters. Tim Seufert ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
