Hi I have lurked for a few months, every time I had a question it seemed to get answered before I asked it. I have found this a very useful group and would like to extend my appreciation to all the contributors. My current setup is Powerbook 2400c 320Mhz 10gig/80mb running OS8.6 Startup is as follows for the current discussion 0:04 - HD Spin up 0:16 - Happy Mac 0:22 - OS Splash 0:40 - App Manager (status bar appears?) 1:04 - Extension load starts 1:22 - Desktop menu bar 1:30 - Complete Now for a few questions 1 -For those that have had cardbus enabled and use firewire what are your experiences with connecting to DV cameras (I have a Sony PC10 and am considering getting cardbus enabled) Has anyone got the recent free release of iMovie to work on there 2400? Does it require OS9.0? it seems to not work on 8.6. I get the impression that even with a cardbus enabled 2400 firewire and usb cards dont behave as they should all the time. is this correct? 2 - What is the approximate extra memory overhead associated with going from OS 8.6 to 9.0? I currently carry about 20mb for the system an as I am maxed out at 80mb I dont want to lose a lot more. (anyone with a feel of what OSX may weigh?) 3- Any recommendations on security software? My book is now full of pretty important and valuable stuff and although I backup I worry about it getting stolen and the information getting into the wrong hands. I need to protect a few files and documents really but I access them regularly so it would be good if it was a kinda invisible or easy protection method that didn't get in the way too much.
