During about 1/3 of the startups of my Duo 2300, the hard drive doesn't
spin up and the Sad Mac icon comes on after about 20 seconds. After
resetting and restarting, the HD always starts normally in 10 sec. It's
been doing this for about 6 months and doesn't seem to be getting worse.
I've done a clean install of 8.1 and run the Drive Setup program with no
obvious change.

Is the HD trying to tell me something? I'm pretty well backed up but I'd
prefer to change out the drive proactively than after a terminal crash.
The key question to me here is, is the drive getting ready to crash
(like the motor bearings seize up) or is this behavior probably not
serious (at least for now)? Anyone else have similar symptoms? If so,
what did you do about it?
