Follow-up Comment #6, bug #24198 (project duplicity):

I experienced this problem ([Errno 32] Broken pipe) when moving my duplicity
encryption key from one machine to another (with a different uid).

When I upgraded to 0.5.05, I realized that my error was from GPG since 0.5.05
includes these two lines in the error output

gpg: XXXXXXXX: There is no assurance this key belongs to the named user
gpg: [stdin]: encryption failed: unusable public key

The workaround is to "trust" the imported key in GPG
$ gpg --edit-key <name>
Command> trust
Command> save
