Given that the input plays properly with very few decode errors in

I take that back, it's normal sized (~500MB for 5 minutes)... It's
just lacks useful audio/video.

I'll have a go with both of those tonight when I get home. Only tried
VLC and media-player classic.

It's a 1080i(1920x1080 mpeg-ts)+5.1DD(AC3 audio encoding) signal
captured over the air using an ATSC tuner card (AirStar HD5000) by
MythTV.

Okay, I'll look at again, I'm pretty sure MythTV only captures the
single subchannel... I could be wrong on that though.
