I'm not quite sure what you mean -- we are changing the default with the above call. Unless of course (like in your case when you have a latin1 locale in the environment) you already have the "right" default. I'm now almost 100% convinced the addition of this call is correct as there is an implicit assumption in the dvbcut source that we are dealing with locale-specific strings.
