I'm thinking more along the lines of +/- links, or a "collapse" link next to/replacing the "expand" link in the current LJ code.
Absolutely understood that something like this would be low priority s:) Just one of those little things that crosses my mind when I (rarely) run into posts with multiple large and/or nested reply threads, and then usually disappears back into my brain-ether until the next time I encounter it.
