This reminds me of something I've thought ever since I met OpenID:   
perhaps there could be some kind of small prompt when someone first  
logs in under OpenID, asking if the user would like to store an email  
address.  Some mention of the fact that this allows comments to be  
sent via email seems like a good idea, since I would bet anything  
that most casual OpenID users have no idea this is possible.
