Yeah, "get started" isn't particularly obvious or transparent. Perhaps a short explanation of "getting started" - listing a couple of major advantages to setting and validating your email address - on the login page itself? I'd think it less likely that people who log in via OpenID are going to register their email without being given good reason to do so, and they're not going to go searching for additional info by clicking the links if there isn't compelling info provided up front..
