Greetings to everyone. :)
Now, after all the extensive and extremely interesting duscussion about communities and OpenID users there is a small question I would like to ask. Can/would be OpenID users able to join communities? Say, currently on LiveJournal such users cannot join communities, they can only watch by adding them to their friends' page. I suppose that is the result of the [wrong] assumption that OpenID users don't need to join communities for they cannot post anyway. But then, such restriction (OpenID user being unable to join communities) brings a few difficulties with communities that 1) have commenting restricted to members only, and/or 2) use "members only" security level on entries. Disallowing OpenID user to join communities makes him/her not only unable to post, but also unable to comment and/or view protected entries, which is not good at all. Seeing that DreamWidth is based on LJ code, I suppose same restrictions work for DW. Can something be done about it? Maybe allow OpenID users to join communities and get all the member privileges while still beeing unable to post (yet)? Is it possible? Commenting and viewing protected entries in relevant cases is natural OpenID account behaviour, after all. :) -- Ja!
