Oh, never consider adding icons - you end with scalability issues, handling of different formats, linking to crappy libraries etc. - use a decent color scheme for urgent messages instead.
How easy is to mix 2 fonts in the message? Is there any font that render as symbols? This can do the trick while not sucking too much...the messages will be a first (last) symbol character plus the message all with a contrast color combination. -- Julián
