What we're seeing is another side-effect of the lower of license requirements.
Because so many are getting new or upgraded licenses by simply reading a book and memorizing some answers, they haven't had the benefit of being Elmered by those with experience... and as a result, they never learn by example. The worst part is in some of these cases, should you try and discuss with the lids, err, stations in question as to their behavior, and make some suggestions (trying to Elmer after the fact, if you will) you often get told something to the effect of "I already know everything since I read the book, so go away." The nastier ones often make a crude and anatomically impossible suggestion or two, none of which can be repeated on this reflector. I've seen some real nasty comments on the reflector, to say nothing of the wisecracks being made on top of the DXpedition's frequency on 17 meters this afternoon. And they all boil down to "you didn't work ME yet, so YOU are a lousy operator." It's going to get worse before it gets better (if it ever does get better). And in the wake of this, we're going to see more disillusioned DX'ers and disgusted DX. Personally, the fact that the TI9KK operator in question is able to maintain any type of rhythm and work as many stations as she had, despite the QRM and snide remarks, is a testament to her operating ability.
