Hello determined callers and all DXers....
Today's news from Andaman:
1. Mr. Suri, VU2MY, head of NIAR, has arrived here and is arranging for publicity for the op all over India. He is cheering the operators on and giving them lots of encouragement to stay awake and keep the bands hot with their calls !!!
2. We have a PSK station on the air from time to time and it has made over 100 contacts.
3. Saraha the computer whiz of the group, has also activated the slow-scan TV station and yesterday made the first two contacts... one to India and one to Japan.
4. I got some great interviews with many of the gang here on video. Also I have video of operations in action and antennas, etc. Bharathi's CW station got into the audio in my video camera and I will have to do those shots again. Thee is a lot of FR flying around here. Bharathi today claimed that she could feel RF on the genuine gold threads in her sari (dress), so she changed into a simpler sari.
5. Everyone is determined to continue to give "that first new one" to as many ops as possible. This is our first and main goal. However, in the last two weeks we will activate more on 40 (YES we do know about splits into the American phone bands) and get 80 working too then.
6. Bharathi's station is in the Hotel Sinclairs. Saraha's op location is in a dorm room of a local college (vy spartan room... we just got him a mattress for the wood bed yesterday and he is getting spoiled). Ram's location was in a rented room in a small apt. bldg. but now he has moved to the Port Blair Science Center where the public can watch the ham radio action. In the rented room, he worked on a mat on the floor.... it was quite something to see the most advanced electronics working from the floor of a bare room ....
Best of luck to all callers and be patient and stay the course....73
