Hey DX ers...
Here it is mid day Christmas Day on Andaman Island. I have been in Asia on this day for about 6 yrs now, and it is really something to remember. Most of those Xmas days had ham radio in them. Of course, no snow over here and few decorations, as to be expected.
I had a great visit with the folks who rent apts in the same bldg as VU4NRO ( the other NRO is in the college dorm). They are wonderful people with rich extended familiy lives. I am the first American each of them have ever met. The children thought I am a cowboy because of my "Tilley hat."
1. The beam at RBI and the one on the college dorm are VERY DIFFICULT to turn. It must be done by hand either clinging to a sloped roof or climbing the "ladder from hell" up 4 stories and then re-tying the guy ropes, etc. So, if we have to have one direction, North is the most universal choice with much RF off the back because these are small beams. That is the beam story.
2. All radios are FT-757GXII with 600 cycle filters for CW.
3. Good news... the wine emails I have gotten have turned into a new version of complaint as so: "Tell them to get on PSK (or u fill in the mode/band) because I really want them there... and oh by the way, I worked them on .... u fill in. The change is that before there were wails for some band/mode and those wails are still there, but now added is the note of at least one completed contact. The best news yet !!!
4. I am forwarding all QSL manager or printer emails to [EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks for them.
5. I am keeping the mash notes from all of you and will print them out and give them to the team afterwards. Really nice of so many guys gals to send tnx.
6. In January, I will be putting out a call for ham folks to weite a nice thank you letter to the powers in the India government. Address and other details to follow later. These letters asking for the op to happen turned the final trick for us all, so thank yous should also do wonders. Especially sought are letters from present or retired govenment officials outside N. Am. because those are the kind of folks the India officials can identify with.
7. Did u hr the CW guy ask for "VE only" for a few contacts? Canada matters , too, eh?
No one is letting up .... will be here to the end of the license permit date, so keep the faith ad listen a lot. 73 for this special day from "THE INDIA DXPEDITION."
I go by Charly on phone and Chas. on CW.... Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED]
