Hi Art,
Well, buro cards are now $8 a pound. (I think ARRL is about ready to
increase their prices?) My generic cards cost about $48 for 500. (some of
my cards have cost $200+ for 1000) Postage to buro runs $3 - $8 per
submission. The majority of the buro cards have been answered direct anyway.
Most of the buro cards are not really needed by those requesting them. The
way I figure it if you need V2 for a new one (or new band and/or mode) you
can spend couple dollars outside of USA and $0.74 if you in the USA for a
card. After I spend 2-3 thousand dollars on 2-3 DXPeditions, every year for
the past 10 years, you can spend couple dollars for a card, IF NEEDED.
I use to believe in the buro but the price is getting out of control.
Don't ask for LOTW! The requirement to resister each call (about 10-12)
each year is a pain. I stopped that too. I will never understand the
purpose for doing this every year. I guess if you only have the one call it
is not too bad.
I have been ask to do 6 meters.. I will take a 6 meter antenna and make a
effort to make as many contacts during openings if and when they occur. If
anyone believes 6 is open just let me know on HF and I will QSY. Would love
to make a few contacts.
Bill
