3Y0X (NOR-08) - Peter I Øy Island
3Y0X twelve days to go! Just an extract of what has been posted last Nov.13,
by Ralph, KØIR and Bob, K4UEE, Peter I DXpedition co-leaders.
Our 40 foot shipping container has been packed and is now on its way to
Chile. After returning from South America earlier this year, we completely
unpacked everything, sorted, prioritized all of our equipment and then repa-
cked. It was a huge job, but it will be worth the effort when we arrive at
Peter I. The container contains exactly 11 tons of equipment, and personal
gear. Our contract calls for 16 days at Peter I. The weather will dictate our
actual schedule but we are projecting that we will be 12-14 days on the air.
We have developed a quick strike plan that will enable two stations on the
air quickly even if we have weather conditions that prevent the entire camp
from being constructed immediately. Ultimately we plan to have nine stations
on the air and a complement of 23 antennas. This doesnt include the recent
decision to make a real effort on 6m, 2m and 70cm EME.
For the first time, we can give approximate dates of our operation. The team
will assemble in Punta Arenas on Jan. 29th and shortly afterward, fly to the
Chilean Naval Base on King George Island, South Shetland Islands. We will
board our vessel there and sail to Peter I.We expect to have two stations on
the air from the vessel operating
. /MM. We hope to arrive at Peter I around
February 6th to begin our 16 day stay. Please remember that these dates are
approximate and depend on many variables including, of course, the weather
and sea ice conditions. QSL Via N2OO

Aleksej, R1ANC/UA1PAC, is currently working on getting the permission to get
on the air from either Zhong Shan or Law Base. According to our friend Alan,
VK0LD,a guest operation from Law Base might be difficult due to accomodation
space and possible interference with the local commercial communication sys-
tem. However Aleksej is in touch with Davis Base now and we will see what can
be done.At the moment a possible operation from Zhong Shan or Law is planned
to take place as R1ANP/A.A special QSL card will be printed as usual,QSL via
DL5EBE.
.
Vlad, R1ANN/RU3HD got in touch with me just a few days ago.He heard from the
excellent possibility of sending and receiving emails through the winlink
system.Very good experience were made this year at Vostok and Bellingshausen
Bases using a SCS PTC IIex for HF email communication.I am glad that I could
make a special deal with SCS company so that a modem will be provided for
Novolazarevskaya Base. Transport is secured via the polar planes which will
arrive to Novo Aerodrome around the 24th/25th of November. I hope that this
contribution will be a good help for R1ANN.

Subject: [antarctica_list] Convoy Mirny -> Vostok
The convoy from Mirny to Vostok will start at the end of November.
Mike, R1ANF/RW1AI, will sign R1ANT/m on the way to Vostok and between the
different bases. For operation from Pionierskaya and Vostok-1 bases the call
R1ANT/P will be used, R1ANK from Komsomolskaya and RW1AI/ANT from Vostok
Base. It's very likely that Mike will do some ice radar measurements on the
famous Lake Vostok in order to get new data from the lake bottom topography.
Operation might take place similar to Aleksej Kuzmenko's activity as R1ANC/p
last time, but with a different callsign. So far Mike has done 5500 QSO with
1 kW in the basic mode CW, but he has also done some contacts in SSB, RTTY
and PSK31. According to the reports of R1ANT and R1ANC we may expect most
activity from the convoy on 30 and 40 m CW. I keep you updated.
Aleksej, R1ANC, reports that he will stay on Progress Base for ca.1 week. His
activity will be as R1ANP with QSL via DL5EBE. At this time, plans are beco-
ming more mature for a guest operation from the chinese Zhong Shan bas which
is only 500 m apart from Progress Base.Zhong Shan base is operating all year
and chances for this one to be activated on amateur bands by Aleksej are
pretty high. I keep you updated, friends. Have a great week-end!

Subject: 2nd WAP Meeting. Mondovi'(Italy) 18 September 2005
Another great success of ARI Mondovi'.
Thanks the organization for having prove another huge sign of capacity, in
getting up the twin Meetings: DCI (Italian Castles Award) and WAP (Worldwide
Antarctic Program). More than 250 people where present in this very intere-
sting Antarctic show. Thanks to AMI (Italian Air Force) Maj. Angelo Romito
and EI(Italian Army) NCO. Danilo Collino, both veterans in Antarctic Expedi-
tions, who have presented a fascinating pictures and deep description of the
activities connected to the trip, the stay and the scientific support reque-
sted to the expedition's partecipants. Super and really impressive, the video
shown by NCO Alpiner Scout Danilo Collino, which have transported everybody
into the Antarctic adventure (Danilo is in the picture here below).WAP Staff
wish to thanks this two exceptional reporters, the PNRA for his support, and
material sent for the partecipants, who did appreciate it very much(TNX Mrs.

Subject: New numbers for 2 different Bases.
New numbers for 2 different Bases in Antarctica WAP did recently check some
cards, received by supporters, and re study the documentation of 2 Bases in
particular. We made though some up dates on the WAP Directory as explained
below: KC4USA Little America "V" Station dated 1957 became WAP USA-29.
Other Little America Stations still un-numbered, are dated as follow:
Little America "I" Station 1929-1930 (I)
Little America "II" Station 1934-1935 (II)
Little America "III" Station 1940-1941 (III)
Little America "IV" Station 1947-1948 (IV)
Little America "V" Station 1955-1959 (V)
KC4AAC(1963), was operating a joint Antarctic Expedition USA-Australia,
from
Wilkes Station (ANARE) , therefore it is WAP AUS-05, and not USA-26 as
listed
before. TNX to the WAP Award manager IK1GPG Max & A.R.I. Mondovì.
