9A, CROATIA (23 Islands to be Activate!). Croatian operator Oto, 9A4OP/p,
plans to activate 23 Croatian islands during a two weeks period. He will
visit two-to-three islands per day starting on July 24th. The list of
islands are available on the Web page at (see "next activities"):

All of the islands, except one (Zecevo island, CI-147, NO IOTA) are in
EU-170.

9A, MORE CROATIAN ISLANDS. Operators Frano (9A5V/p), Matko (9A3VM/p), and
Fredy (9A5KV/p) were expected to activate four Croatian Islands on June
22-23rd: Tajan (CI-221, EU-016), Crkvina (CI-163, EU-016), Kosmec (CI-180,
EU-016) and Olipa (CI-079, NO IOTA).

AP, PAKISTAN. Bruce, KK5DO, informs OPDX that it has been almost 3 years
since Asad, AP2AUM, was last active on the satellites. So, he has now
started operating HF and satellite again. Currently, he is operating on
FO-20 and FO-29. Bruce is working on getting Asad some downlink equipment
for AO-40 (2.4 GHz). Also, Bruce mentions that he is the QSL Manager for
AP2AUM. Pakistan is very rare on the satellites, and Asad is the only
satellite operator there. On HF, look for AP2AUM on 15 meters SSB around
21250 kHz between 1330 and 1400z.

FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Paolo, IK2QPR, informs OPDX that he will be active
from the Island of Bora Bora (OC-067) between August 10-14th as FO/IK2QPR.
Activity will be on SSB/CW on 80-10 meters. QSL via IK2QPR: Paolo Fava,
via Bertani 8, 46100 Mantova, ITALY.

FP, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON (Also Zone 2). After their St. Paul Island
operations, Ed/W0SD and his wife Edith/W0OE will continue on and operate
from FP8, July 27-29th. Activity will be on HF and 6 meters, same
frequencies as the St. Paul operation. They will use a 6 meter beam left
by K1TOL. Later in August, they will be active from CQ WW Zone 2 from
Labrador City, Labrador. QSL via W0SD: Ed Gray, 43804  257 St., Salem,

FR, REUNION ISLAND. Tommy, WE7K, informs OPDX that Pat, FR5FD, who has
been very active from Reunion Island, will be returning to France on
September 8th. Thus far, he has sent out 103,000 QSL cards since September
1999. Pat was heard this past week on 18070 kHz around 0330z.

IOTA NEWS.................
   AS-147.  Takeshi, JI3DST, will be active from Okushiri Island
            (Okushiri-cho Okushiri-gun Hokkaidou) from July 26th through
            August 5th, as JI3DST/8. Activity will be on 40/17/15/12/10/6
            meters SSB. QSL via the Bureau ONLY (Please don't send QSL
            by Air mail.) He will be active in the IOTA Contest.

   EU-009.  Peter, GM3OFT, will be active between June 24th and July
            12th from some 15 Orkney Islands. Here are the following
            WAB areas: HY00, HY10, HY20, HY40, HY41, HY42, HY50, HY51,
            HY52, HY53, HY62, HY63, HY64, HY73, HY74, HY75 ND09, ND29,
            ND39, ND48, ND49 and possibly ND59. He will use the usual
            IOTA frequencies, and his callsign will be GM3OFT/P. On 40m,
            he will use 7072 +/- QRM or 7060 kHz.

   EU-077.  Look for ED1URJ to be activate by a Spanish-Portuguese team
            from Sisarga Grande Island (weather permittung) during the
            IOTA Contest, July 27-28th. Activity will be only 100 watts
            on CW/SSB. Operators are CT1CJJ, CT1EEB, CT1EEN, EA1CA,
            EA1DAV, EA1TV, EA4ABE and EA4ST. QSL via EA4URJ, direct or
            Bureau.

   EU-088.  Per, OZ1DGQ, is active from Laeso Island (NK-003 for the
            Danish Islands Award) now through at least August 20th. His
            QTH will be close to the Harbour Lighthouse (DEN-029). His
            activity will mainly be on after 1800z on 10-80 meters SSB
            (with some CW, PSK31 and RTTY) and on 6 meters (50200 kHz
            +/-). QSL direct only to OZ1DGQ.

   NA-046.  Brad, W1RQ, will be operating from Martha's Vineyard Island
            now through July 12th. Activity will be mostly on 40-10 meters
            SSB. Look for him on or near the IOTA frequencies. This counts
            for Massachusetts Dukes County. QSL via his home call.

   OC-221.  Operators Kadek/YC9BU, Yoppie/YE8XM and Marthin/YB8VM have
            left Ambon and were expected to activate Kai Kecil Island
            this past Sunday for about 3-4 days (maybe more). After their
            operation at Kai Kecil, they will be going in to Wamar Island
            (Aru Islands) for about a 7 day operation. Look for them to
            sign YE8XM/P,YB8VM/P and YC9BU/8.

JW, SVALBARD. Tom, LA4LN, informs OPDX that he will again be operating
as JW4LN from Spitsbergen (IOTA EU-26) and Bear Island (IOTA EU-27),
July 6-21st, while on work. The Bear Island operation is planned to take
place July 9-16th, landing weather permitting! He will be on the radio
mainly in the evenings (local time) and when time permits. Check the
lower CW portions, especially the 40, 30, and 20 meter bands (or other
bands which may be open); and 6 meters (50150 kHz, +/- 15 kHz). Equipment
will be an ICOM IC-706 MkII and mainly wire antennas. PSK-31 and RTTY
are possible, but not from Bear Island. While on Bear Island a 60 Ah
battery and a gasoline generator will be used for power. Please QSL

LA, NORWAY (Rare 6m Grids). Tom, LA4LN, informs OPDX that during the
period of June 18th and July 3rd, he will be active on 6 meters (50150,
+/- 15 kHz) as LA4LN/m while driving from the South to Northern Norway.
He will activate a number of rare QTH locator grid squares. On Tuesday,
June 25th, between 1700-2100z, he will operate as LA1V from the rare
grid square JP78 in the VHF Nordic Activity Contest using 2 stacked
5 element Yagi antennas. Check 50.165 MHz. QSL LA1V via LA4LN.

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY AND NEWS.................
   A group of operators will be active in the IOTA Contest from Korcula
   Island (EU-016) as 9A8RR. After the IOTA contest, July 30-31st, they
   will be active from Glavat Island Lighthouse (WLH-0170) with two
   transceivers on 40-10 meters as 9A8RR/p.

LLDXT WILL BE ACTIVE AGAIN! The Low-Land DXpedition Team (LLDXT) will
organize their next DXpedition from October 12th through November 1st,
to Dominica/J7 (NA-101) and Montserrat/VP2M (NA-103). The team will
consist of Bouke/PA0ZH, Ronald/PA3EWP, Enno/PA5EA and Rob/PA5ET, who
will start their activity on  Dominica on Monday, October 14th.
Subsequently, the team will travel to Montserrat on Monday, October 21st.
Henk/PA3GCV and Martin/PA4WM will join the team on October 23rd. The
Montserrat activity will include a serious Multi/Single entry in the CQWW
SSB Contest. The operation will last until November 1st. Callsigns will
probably not be known before arrival. Their aim is to obtain a special
160m callsign and a special contest callsign. More information will be
given in due time. They are currently mounting a web site, which will be

As in previous years, the QSL manager is Rob Snieder, PA5ET,
Van Leeuwenstraat 137, 2273 VS  Voorburg, The Netherlands.

NP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Bruce/W4OV, Julio/WD4JR, John/NP2B and Joe/VE3BW
will be operating from St. Croix in the CQWW SSB Contest, October 26-28th
as NP2B. They will be arriving on October 22nd, and plan to operate the
WARC bands and especially 6 meters prior to the contest using their own
callsigns portable NP2. They will have a 4 element quad on 6 meters for
pre-contest QSOs.

OJ0, MARKET REEF. Before operating in the WRTC2002 in Helsinki, Roland/K9LA
and Vicky/AE9YL will be active from here July 8-11th, using the callsign
OJ0/AE9YL. Reference numbers are ARLHS MAR001 and IOTA EU053. They will
be active on all bands on or near the ARLHS frequencies (1970, 3970,
7270, 14270, 21370 and 28370 kHz). QSL to home call.

P5, NORTH KOREA. Bruce, KK5DO, informs OPDX that Ed, P5/4L4FN, will be
out of the country from June 24th through July 1st. He will be in Beijing,
China, picking up supplies including a Hex Beam for 10 and 15 meters,
satellite antenna and down converter as well as additions to his Butternut
for 6/12/17 meters. Also sent was a rotor for the Hex Beam.

QSL INFO AND NEWS........................
   6Y2A QSL STATUS. OPDX was informed that there was an unexpected demand
   for 6Y2A QSLs, and the printer won't finish the new order for 6 weeks.
   All 6Y2A and Team Vertical QSL requests will be promptly returned when
   the printing is done. QSL 6Y2A via WA4WTG.

   Operators 9A5V/p, 9A5KV/p, and 9A3VM/p were expected to activate, for
   the first time, Olipa Lighthouse (LH-0517 for the World Lighthouse Award
   and CLH-097 for the Croatian LH award) this past weekend. QSL Manager
   is 9A5KV.

   Members and friends of the HRO Employees Amateur Radio Society (W6HRO)
   were expected to be active in Field Day from the north coast of Puerto
   Rico as NP4A. Operators that were expected to participate: NP4A, W1HIJ,
   N6PEQ, K7JA, KL7MF and KF6SGV. QSL via W3HNK.

   PIRATE. Sergey ("Jack"), RA3SL, informs OPDX that the bureau for Kursk
   Oblast of Russia has been recieving a lot of QSLs for A9/RK3WL. RK3WL
   is unknown and a pirated callsign! Save your money and time!

   Denis O'Flynn, EI6HB, QSL Manager for EI7M, EI7M/p and EJ7M has changed
   his E-mail address. His new addresses are:

   Paolo, IK2QPR, continues to be QSL Manager for the following active
   stations on the air: UN2O, UN7FW, UN9PQ , UN7JX, UN7OD, UN7OP, UK8OM,
   UK8IZ , UK8GH, EX2U, EX5T, EX7MA, EX7NK, EX8NP, EX8QB, EX7MK, UA0YAY,
   EU6MM, EW6GB ..... plus their respectibe special prefixes or older
   callsigns. However, Paolo is no longer the QSL Manager for the
   following:
       EX8MLE - as of April 1, 2002. For QSOs made after this date, QSL
                via direct to Sergey in Kyrhyzstan using the address
                on www.qrz.com.
       EK3GM  - as of May 20, 2002. He can confirm all QSO made until
                this date. The new manager for Boris is now DK6CW.

       EK8WB  - as of May 1999. DO NOT send for requests for QSOs made
                after this date. QSL should be requested direct from:
                Vahan Avetisian, PO Box 50, Gyumri, ARMENIA.

   The special callsign IQ9YL was active this past week to celebrate the
   "6th International YL Meeting" to strengthen friendship among woman
   operators throughout the world. QSL via IT9BLB directly or via the

   Jan, PA9JJ, reports that he just received the QSL cards for his
   C56JJ operation. All direct received cards were expected to be mailed
   out June 19th.

   Rune, LA7THA, informs OPDX that QSL cards for the S9LA Sao Tome
   DXpedition are nearly ready from the printer. They will start to
   answer QSL around the end of July, and then after, they will do the
   bureau cards.

   TN3B/TN3W QSL STATUS. Josep/EA3BT and Nuria/EA3WL informed the DX
   community that the QSL card is already at the printer and they have
   been told that it will be in their hands by the end of month. So, if
   everything goes OK, they will start to confirm QSLs by the month of
   July. The QSL card is a full color, double page, with plenty of
   pictures. Meanwhile, Josep and Nuria are in the process of setting up
   their Web site to list the QSLs/envelopes that were already received
   (this is to let you know that your card got there). IMPORTANT NOTICE:
   Some of you have sent envelopes with Spanish stamps on it. Please
   notice that since the 1st of January 2002 the coin used in Spain
   (and Europe) has changed. Now and since the 1st March 2002, the only
   legal stamps are the ones that have the value in Euros. So, all the
   QSL cards received with stamps that only have the value in pesetas
   (ptas) will not be confirmed direct. Please check the stamps before
   sending them!!! Also, they are still looking for some donations. The
   financial costs of their operation was really high.

   Nenad, VE3EXY, reports that all direct QSL cards for his VE3EXY/2
   operation from Zone 2 that happened about a week and a half ago are
   in the mail. He states he really did not have the idea that Zone 2
   is so needed, and not only on lower bands. He mentions, "For those of
   you who sent VE3EXY/2 cards with K1B cards, all cards are answered and
   placed in the K1B SAE."

   Cheryl Horner informed the DX community that Bill Horner, VK4FW, had
   a mild heart attack June 18th. Doctors tell them that an infected lung
   triggered it. Bill is expected to take a while to fully recover. Please
   be patient if you are waiting for QSL cards or other DX related things.

   Alan, VK4AAR, announced that since he is already the QSL Manager for
   VK8AN/6 (OC-154) and VK8AN/8 (OC-229), it has been agreed that he should
   also handle QSLs for VK8AN operating from his home in Darwin, Northern
   Territory. Starting from June 2002, Dan will be operating QRP and would
   appreciate contacts for his QRP-DXCC endeavours. QSL direct only via
   VK4AAR with SAE and postage (minimum of 1 USD is OK). Address below is:

   Kadek, YC9BU, informs OPDX that he has the YE8V logs from Martin, YB8VM,
   but the cards were lost in the ethnic war in Ambon. He states that this
   is no problem. When he returns from Aru Island (see IOTA news above),
   he will have new cards printed like the original to help those who need
   YE8V (OC-157) Banda Island. He can QSL QSOs only for November 1-5th,
   1991, and November 15-17th, 1995.

V4, ST. KITTS. Joe, VE3BW, informs OPDX that in November he will be
returning here to operate the CQWW CW Contest from a new contest site
on St. Kitts as V47CA.

W1AW/5 TO BE ACTIVATED! Look for some 40 operators/members, mostly from
the Central Texas DX and Contest Club, to activate W1AW/5 from six contest
stations during the upcoming IARU  HF World Championship on July 13-14th.
W1AW/5 will be operating on 160/80/40/20/15/10 meters CW/SSB during the
contest for the entire 24 hour period. QSL via W1AW. The complete press
release will be provided to all OPDX Subscribers as an additional bulletin.

WRTC2002'S NEWS (Att. Prefix Hunters), TEAM AND REFEREE ROSTER CHANGES.....
   WORKED ALL WRTC2002 ("Worked All New OJ prefixes"). The OJ1- OJ8
   prefixes will be activated for the 1st time! The WRTC2002 teams will
   be using  a special 2x1 type of callsigns with special OJ1-OJ8 prefixes
   (e.g. OJ1A). The OJ1-OJ8 prefixes are activated for the first time in
   history to honor WRTC2002 - the Olympics of Amateur Radio contesting
   in Finland. Get your log in immediately after the contest and win
   valuable "Early Bird" prizes -  WRTC2002 special incentive for 6-hour
   log-in! "Details/Press Release" will be provided to all OPDX Subscribers
   as an addtional bulletin.

   TEAM ITALY: Maurizio Panicara, I4JMY, will be replaced by I4UFH, so
   the new Team Italy is as follows: Stefano Brioschi, IK2QEI, and Fabio
   Schettino, I4UFH.

   TEAM SLOVENIA: Robert Kasca, S53R, and Robert Bajuk, S57AW, will be
   replaced by Vito Gregor, S56M, and Ivo Jereb, S57AL.

   REFEREE ROSTER: Edin Gadzo, T97M, will be replaced by Boris Knezovic,
   T93Y.

XW, LAOS. Hiroo, XU2A, will once again be active as XW0X from Vientiane,
Laos. He will be there with his sister for one week and then head to
Thailand with her before going alone back to Japan.
