I also do experience this issue in 13.10. After some time the icon for the mouse is displayed where the icon for a missing icon was before. If remove the wireless receiver and replug it the icon for missing icon is displayed again. Tested mice: Logitech Performance MX and Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX with Unifying receiver.
