Looks to me like the mouse is initially not properly detected, therefore declared as an unkown device and since icons for unknown devices seem to not exist the missing icon is returned. Since this battery and ups indicator was initially all about batteries, wouldn't it be better to return the device as a kind of unkown battery and display a battery icon?
