John, I can understand your frustration.  I am *not* DX4WIN support, despite my
many postings to this reflector.

Please download and and install a clean DEMO copy of DX4WIN 6.03 into a
separate directory.  Do not merge your preferences or even install your key.

Change your Packet1 settings to Regular and TCP/IP.  See if you can connect. 
This will help to narrow the scope of the problem.

If this works, exit DX4WIN, copy your N3DRK.key from the old directory to the
new one, and try the experiment again.  If that works, merge your .INI
preferences from the old version to the new one and try again (make sure
Packet1 settings are correct).

I did exactly as you said Jim. I downloaded a demo copy of the program into
a seperate directory and did not merge my preferences or install my key. I
then changed the file / perferences / packet 1 settings to Regular and
TCP/IP and still  I got that error message when I tried to login to any
node.
