Hi George, I have written about this before an have a note to develop this into an application note, but here goes. If you see the word "Modified" in RED, this means that your most recent log changes are in the computer RAM memory only, not written to disk. It is my personal policy to NEVER walk away from the computer in this case without first saving the log, or waiting for it to turn black (see next item). If you see the word "Modified" in BLACK, this means that DX4WIN has written your log (with the changes) to a DX4WIN.DXB backup file in the directory ABOVE your SAVE directory. If DX4WIN crashes, and upon restarting finds a DX4WIN.DXB file, it will prompt you to save this file, since it is the most recent copy of your log. Once you save the log (either through File -> Save or ALT+S), then the word "Modified" will go away. If you have chosen to back up DX spots (File -> Preferences -> Packet1), then the word "Modified" will re-appear as the packet spots file (DX4WIN.PUT) is updated, but it will be in BLACK, not RED. The (number) next to the word "Modified" indicates the number of seconds left before the data is written to disk. There are a couple more files involved here: - when you save your log (as W2YJ.dxl in your case), DX4WIN will rename the previous saved log to W2YJ.~xl - when DX4WIN writes the backup log, it will rename the previous backup log to DX4WIN.~XB 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.us
