[Dx4win] AFSK RTTY with KAM

Hi, I have an older KAM all mode TNC that I am trying to set up for RTTY 
using AFSK. I have it wired for the Packet Jack on the radio and the HF port 
on the TNC. I am using the Yaesu MarkV. When I turn the TNC on, I get a line 
of black squares in the RTTY window and that's it. I cant get into the 
Command Mode. Should I be using the VHF port? Thanks for any help. 73 John
