Thanks to those that made the suggestions. I had already tried those suggestions earlier with no success.the problem being that when I would follow the path and select DX4WIN.exe, it would not allow me to "OK" due to 'grayed' out button.
Anyway the problem seems to have been solved. Here is what I have done since asking for help. I saved the important files, *.rep, *.dxl etc. Next I had Microsoft remove DX4Win. I did a "Tune up" (using One Care) which sort of cleans up lots of junk files, defrags and other housekeeping stuff. Then I downloaded DX4Win onboard and BINGO, it seems to be all back to Happy Land once more. Don't know what the heck done it.. I'm not askin..and the laptop ain't tellin.
