Thanks to those that made the suggestions.  I had already tried those
suggestions earlier with no success.the problem being that when I would
follow the path and select DX4WIN.exe, it would not allow me to "OK" due to
'grayed' out button.

 

Anyway the problem seems to have been solved.  Here is what I have done
since asking for help.   I saved the important files, *.rep, *.dxl etc.

Next I had Microsoft remove DX4Win.  I did a "Tune up" (using One Care)
which sort of cleans up lots of junk files, defrags and other housekeeping
stuff.  Then I downloaded DX4Win onboard and BINGO, it seems to be all back
to Happy Land once more.

 

Don't know what the heck done it.. I'm not askin..and the laptop ain't
tellin.  Thanks again to all who responded.
