Hi John, Your computer may be putting the USB port to sleep. In Windows 7 try this:
Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options. Next to Recommended Settings, select Change Plan Settings. Then click Change Advanced Power Settings. Click the + next to USB Settings. Click the + next to USB Selective Suspend Setting. If you click on the Setting: Enable, you will get a drop down box that allows you to change it to Disable.
