I use the "Notes for this QSO" field in this case. For the CQ US county award...
If you work an independent city, You can claim credit for one of the surrounding counties. It is up to the individual to pick which county he would like to get credit for. This can ONLY be done once for a contact with an independent city however... As per logging it into DX4Win, You basically just pick the county surrounding the independent city to get credit for and log it that way. What I have done then is to add a remark into the "Notes for this QSO" field as to this contact was with the independent city and which county I took credit for. Reason being is you can switch which county you may want to get credit for before applying for the award. Example: If you happen to work the county you are taking credit for the independent city contact, You can then pick one of the other surrounding counties that are needed yet.
