Lee, Jim and All, Thank you for the useful suggestions, although none of them worked. I did a complete hardware check including and exhaustive check of the memory and found nothing wrong.
THEN, I reloaded a "clean" load of Windows 10. Now, DX4WIN operates normally without freezing the PC. The clean load came from the same disk as the previous installation.
