I have received the answer to my enquiry and thank all for the time taken to help me out.
I don't understand why, when updating the program, the DEFAULT situation apparently is to effect a change to the log set-up, allowing dills like me to do so because they did not anticipate that they would have to actually STOP this process in the first place. What might be the reason for the default situation, I wonder? Ah we...all is now good. Yes Ernie when checking for updates un-check (layouts for logbook window) or it will over write your changes every time. Then, I went to the update area and updated a couple of files (as the program suggested), and when I returned to the program I immediately noticed that my logbook set-up had returned to the default setting!
