Hi Brad;
I am not sure why you are having so much trouble; my experience over 25
years shows DX4WIN to be pretty robust to Microsoft changes.
I am hoping you can see my illustrated screen shot showing many logs;
all DX4WIN Log files should have the exension *.DXL
You will see I am following the same file save location you do

Hello all,
I am running DX4WIN ver. 9.0.9.1259 on a Windows 10 Pro machine and have a
major problem. I have found in the past that the program DOES NOT like power
outages when the program is in use and does NOT like it when Microsoft updates
my computer.
A few days ago, I received another update from Microsoft and the DX4WIN program
would not work correctly. In the past, when I would receive an update or would
experience a power failure, I would have to resort to uninstalling the program
and then re-installing it, after which I would find all of the QSOs in my log
book.
This time, that process did not work. I keep two separate log books - the main one for my
N9EN QSOs and a separate one for the QSOs that I have made when I operate my
"W4A" special event. I tried to restore the computer to an earlier date, with
disastrous results. After (finally) undoing the restore, I again had a working computer.
What I have now is the "W4A" QSOs in both log books. In the past, when exiting the program, I would
religiously select "save" and "backup" before closing the program. I KNOW that I have
saved the N9EN QSOs at least up to December 18, when I began my W4A special event.
The DX4WIN program is installed in the "Windows (C:) directory and is called "dx4w903."
In that directory is a folder called "SAVE" and it appears that the logbook files are in that
folder, as there are files named [N9EN_LOG.~xl], [N9EN_LOG], [W4A.~xl] and [W4A].
I have tried replacing the N9EN files in the "SAVE" folder with files that I had saved to my
"Documents" and after replacing the N9EN files in the "SAVE" folder with the saved files,
that did not help.
Is there a different directory in which the "actual" logbook files are located? I am at
wit's end as how to take care of this problem. Prior to using DX4WIN, I had used a program called
"Log Windows" - that program would not run on any operating system newer than Windows XP
and it also did not like QSOs that were newer than December 31, 2020. That was why I switched to
the new program.
I have never had so much trouble with any computer program as I have had with
DX4WIN. I only use the program for referring to past QSOs and to keep track of
sending and receiving QSLs.
I would very much appreciate any help that I can receive on my problem. Thank
you very much.
