Local backups are great to have when you do stupid things.  But they
may not always be enough (see below).

Continuous cloud backups are a necessity for disasters (think house or
storage burning down).  Backblaze and Carbonite are two services I
have used in the past.  $100/year or less.

If you have a safe deposit box (at a bank), rotate local backup drives
through it.  But I can almost guarantee that the one in the vault will
never be the one you really need.

A few weeks ago, Backblaze allowed me to recover two days of work when
a disk went bad.  The local backup hadn't run during that time.
