I rec'd to many emails to answer each one so here is the scoop. I tried using the file off the Linksys website to upload the new firmware version and it would not work. After over an hour with the tech support folks they emailed me the update in a different form and I was then able to update mine from 1.40.2 to the newest version which is 1.42.7.
I now have the Keep Alive Timer set at the default of 10 and it has worked all morning so I am reasonably sure the problem is resolved. I received emails from some folks using the Linksys BEFSR41 that say they are having no problems but I assume theirs is newer then mine and came with a later version of firmware. Maybe not the newest but later than mine. I was told by Linksys that the newer model has some hardware changes too so that could explain why theirs worked and mine didn't . Thanks to everybody who offered help and best 73. Oh I must say too that Linksys has a toll free number, thank goodness, and will stay with you till the problem is resolved.
