Here is where I am at: DXBase 2003 is set up in E:\Ham\DXBase 2003 I am running WIN98SE
CW - I have added driverx.vxd and driverx.sys to "C:\Win\System" and ":\Win\System32\Drivers"as recommended. - My LPT1 address is 378 - This worked under DXBase5 - If 2003 doesn't handle CW in WIN98SE, then I will get an external keyer. - Should I change the keying to a COM port? - LPT1 is not being used for anything else. It is set up as an ECP port. RAC CD - In Tools>Options>User Options>Directories>CDROM Path Data, I had "D:\Ham|Rac". I changed it to "\Ham\Rac" and now it works. GOWIN - I have GOWIN in "E:\Ham\Gowin" - In Tools>Options>User Options>AUX Manager>Golist Data Path I have E:\Ham\Gowin - I have "Golist for Windows" Checked. - I can't get it to function. Any ideas? - In the "E:\Ham\Gowin" folder I have a file gowin32.dll. - Gowin works from an icon on the desktop. - Any ideas? Internet connection - In Tools>Options>User Options>Internet, the only entry in IP Host was dxc.k1ttt.net. I added a few more. - The IP hosts I added worked fine. Just thought DXTelnet is a good IP host. No other special reason to use it. Will stick with one of the ones I entered if it's too much trouble to set up DXTelnet. - Is the list of the IP host sites on the CD. Where can I find it? I like the layout and functionality of the program. It's a big step up for me from DXBase 5. Please bear with me as I need some help to get a few items straightened out. There is a section in the help file that tells you step by step how to set up your address CD data on your hard drive. You must set it up exactly as described or it will not work. Check out External Program Interfaces, Address CDs, CDs on your hard drive. Also check out the user options for Directory and also Log tabs. Everything is there. 2. There is no standard address for a LPT port. DXbase installs registry entries and uses a typical address for each port, but your machine may be different. The CW section of the help files describes all this. You should check the registry entry for your LPT and if the address of your actual port is different, you must change the entry that we used. Be sure you are not using same LPT for CW that you have for printing etc... If you intend to operate "serious" CW, we suggest looking at an external CW board such as the one available from makers of WriteLog. DXbase can interface with this and it sends perfect CW without any of the potential jerkiness that comes from Windows. Bill, yes, the internal CW interface seems to give the most trouble in terms of setup. For the most part, this is just the nature of the beast when you try to violate the Windows Operating System standards. And, it gets more and more difficult with each new release of Windows. Toggling leads outside of the standard Windows Architecture just isn't meant to be. Thus the need for special drivers like we use, but then with that comes a certain amount of user action required ( remember the infamous "some assembly required" ) to make our entries agree with their hardware... etc... I really believe that we will one day just remove the internal CW module and for those who want keyboard CW, they will have to purchase an external board and DXbase will interface with that transparently. That's really the way the architecture is intended to be and that's why those interfaces works easily with nearly no problem setting it up. But time will tell. 3. You can use DX Telnet with DXbase. Fab has created a document with instructions for how to do this and you can access it from the news page of our web site on the right hand side. However, unless you have some special need, there really isn't any reason to use DX Telnet with DXbase. You can connect to any of the telnet sites from DXbase and you can add new ones. The default shipped with DXbase contains about 100 sites already from which you can pick in the internet user option tab. 4. To use GoWin, you have to be using the Windows version of GoWin. If you have that, then all you need to do is set the user options in DXbase to show the path to your GoWin folder. In DXbase, wherever an input is present for a folder or file name ( path ), you'll see a button to the right of the field with three dots on it. Use this button and the drop down box to select the path. Hope this and other answers give you all you need.
