Way back when. A group of us in the local DX club thought this would be a great idea. One of the guys set up a bunch of those pager to beep when that rare DX station was spotted. Turned out, not to be as useful as we thought. There were so many false spots that we all started ignoring them unless we were already at home/shack and after just a few months we abandoned the whole system.
The DX Telnet system may work better as you can filter were the spots are coming from and drill them down to a specific state/province.
