According to the USA-CA rules, an Independent City (not within any county) can be used once and only once for credit for any adjoining county.

This evening I imported a LoTW and received a county error pointing to Newport News City. Most of these types of errors even this Canuck can decipher especially since someone at one time was kind enough to provide me with a link to the County Hunters webpage. Now, it seems according to the County Hunters webpage there is no such place, yet if I do a quick and possibly inaccurate search of the internet, the web sort of says there is. DXbase says no such place, now I am confused and need a bit of direction, in a word, HELP! To all you geography buffs that know the answer, thanks in advance Eric - VE3GSI. ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Mar 6 08:22:25 2006 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (JV) Date: Mon Mar 6 08:23:27 2006 Subject: [Dxbase] Newport New City County Question References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Newport News is in the country of York. -------Original Message------- From: Eric - VE3GSI Date: 03/05/06 21:48:14 To: [email protected] Subject: [Dxbase] Newport New City County Question I need a county expert for VA. Before that, let me explain that I understand that DXBase is not a contest program. The reason I used instead of writelog it was because my main concern was working new DX and not the contest. Writelog would tell me if I worked that call before in this contest, I wanted to know what I needed for DX. Also, I am no DXBase expert so if there is a way to get the results I talk about please tell me. OK, here is the list: 1) Need a way to see need for both worked and confirmed. I started out with "need confirmed". After a while I switched to "need worked" to highlight the ones I still needed after adding 60 new entities. When the red started to dissappear from the dx info screen I wanted to switch back to "need confirmed" so I can rework any countries that I needed to better my chances of a QSL. This gave me more DX to look for, but in a couple cases, one poped up that I really needed and got lost in the shuffle. It would be convient to be able to see both columns or maybee even have two dx info windows. 2) Control dx info scrolling. Many times I wanted to scroll back in the dx info window. However, new dx jumps back to the bottom which can be quite annoying when you are looking for a old call. You don't want to jump if you are scrolling back, but if you are at the bottom, you want the new dx to show up without having to scroll down. One solution is to only scroll the newline if the bottom dx is visable (already scrolled to bottom). 3) Some way to load the call from the Summary window to the QSO log. I had to type this each time. There is probably a way to do this. That is all for now. Some of this may be my own ignorance of how to setup dxbase. Thanks for your time. One, use a CONTESTING PROGRAM on one monitor and, use DXBase on a second monitor (dual monitor card or even a second computer) Use ARUser to set up you filtering on contest cluster node so contest program only get bands/modes you want. Run DXBase to a different cluster, (or same cluster node and change your call with a CSID that is different that other connection) and set DXBase to alert only band/modes/countries you want. Keep the Internet Cluster window small and the DX Info window BIG. Hopefully your running DXB2006 and you can set the Internet Screen Update option to 'DX Info Window' Using this system last weekend and concentrating on 160, 80, & and just a bit of 40, I picked up 12 new band/modes. DXBase monitor or computer would tell me when it was a new band/mode I needed to confirm. Then I'd look at contesting program, find the station in the bandmap which would tell me if I'd worked him already or not. as for switching back and forth between 'needed all time' & 'need to confirm', don't do it. just work them all when the opportunity is there, the first guy you worked will be one of those 'work everybody but never qsls' and you will have missed the good guys who do. Now I'm sure you have questions, if so email me and I'll send my phone number. ----------------------------------------------------- If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried ----------------------------------------------------- Bill H. in Chicagoland webcams at http://24.14.49.4:8080 weather at http://mywebpages.comcast.net/w9ol/WX/HH.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Tortajada" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 06, 2006 2:35 PM Subject: [Dxbase] ARRL SSB contest > Greetings everyone, I just used dxbase for the ARRL SSB contest and I had a > few > observations that I wanted to share with the group.
