Being able to print directly onto the QSL card is a huge advantage in
QSLing. I get QSL cards often and don't like to let them pile up. Thanks to
Joe, whether I get one SASE or 200 from the bureau, I can get those cards
sent out within a couple of days. This is particularly good for those of us
that have arthritis and have a hard time writing, or peeling
those.....labels and sticking them on the QSLs. Anything to make the process
of setting up the printing of the information on the QSL cards would be very
helpful! The current process is entirely too complicated for dummies like
me. Fortunately, there are some really good guys around to help.

My biggest problem at this point is the company that I use to print my QSL
cards has gotten sloppy and doesn't always cut my cards exactly the same and
doesn't always get the printed information in exactly the same place. When I
print just one QSO on a card it is fine but when it is multiple QSOs the
print goes outside the boxes sometimes. Very irritating.

I am trying to think of a good solution to this. I know that some have gone
to printing multiple QSLs on the blank back of the card, but I want my
information all on the same side as the card. I think I may just have the
company leave the headers (Call, Date, Time, etc) on the card but remove the
lines that enclose that information. I talked to a local printer and showed
him the problem but he said that he could not match their prices.

If you don't print directly on your cards, you should. This part of DXBase
is outstanding. I spent several years printing labels prior to making the
switch. The labels are expensive, and the process is time consuming and it
hurts my hands a lot. My printer, a HP2175 "All in One" is not an expensive
printer but I can print about 30 cards (I use light cardstock) before
reloading another set of blank cards...or you can print one card at a time
using the little envelope slot that most printers have. Remember, DXBase
lets you print one selected card at a time or do it in batches.

I also print all my envelopes (both outgoing and SASE) using MS Word
(Tools...Letters and Mailings....Envelopes and Mailings) using the same slot
in the printer that I print the individual QSL cards. You don't have to hand
write anything and hopefully the postman can read it!!

Oh, by the way. Keep your log backed up. I keep my log in two places,
fortunately, because I lost my log (about 50,000 Qs) last week. I have the
computers in my house networked and I can share information from DXBase on
two computers. I just drag the W5VX.mdb file to the backup computer once or
twice a week. However you do it, do it!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Bill, W5VX
