I use the K1EL with the latest firmware via the microHAM interface. I'm not sure if something has changed with the new chip or there was an idiosyncrasy I never notice with DXB7 before now. If I open the K1EL keyer twice, the connection will fail every time. The only work-around I have found is to turn off the microHAM with the built-in K1EL keyer and reconnect with DXB.
The first time you use the keyer in DXB, you must configure the keyer and then turn it off and the right back on, then connect to the keyer via DXB. Once the keyer has been configured, then there is no problem there after - as long as you only connect once. See the help file in DXB for more information on setting up the keyer as I sort of remember it mentioning the connection has to be reopened when there is a configuration change. I do suspect it is the way DXB7 is configured, I think it will check for a connection, if none found then it shuts off the port.
