Yes the K3 will work perfectly with the K2 file. I have a radios.ini
entry for the k3 but it's currently functionally identical to the k2 so
it's simply a cosmetic addition at this stage

all DXB rig control features are fully supported on the K2 / K3
including reading & setting split..

Elecraft very wisely adopted kenwood protocol as the base protocol for
their radios

the base K2 or K3 when first turned on behaves pretty much like a TS570,
there is a single extended mode on the K2 that expands on the base
kenwood protocol.
The k3 has 2 extended modes, the first of which is identical to the K2
the second mode enables additional k3 features

this means that the radio can have extra features without breaking
backwards compatibility. Why don't other manufacturers do it this way ?

if anyone finds k2/k3 bugs in Dxbase I would like to hear about them

The k3 has replaced an icom 7800 here with no regrets
