If you have a fully maintained database of prefixes the date that
goes with the QSO should cause the correct prefix to be chosen.
If you put in the callsign today and with todays date then yes you
will get Hong Knog which is correct.
Shut off the auto date and time filling of your log as well as
frequency from the radio and do a fully manual log entry.
Now enter the QSO in this sequence from the card:
date first - then time - then callsign - then band - then mode -
then and name and qth - now check the country prefix and you will
see the program picks up the old Kiribati country prefix based on the
callsign used and the date. There is a table that has been built over
the years this program has been in use with all the old data already
in place. You just have to shut off the auto population of date and
time to get the correct answer if you enter a QSO today for something
that happend years in the past.
If you have auto fill is left on then the program overwrites the date
and time you manually entered in the fields after you enter the
callsign and hit the enter key, It now picks up todays date from your
computer and finds the country prefix based on todays date and time
so naturally it picks Hong Kong.
If you are importing the QSO along with a valid date and time it
should find the correct country prefix during the prefix.

Help . . .
How can the DX prefix database be corrected for all these old
callsigns and old prefixes?
VR1AA comes up in DXbase2006 as Pitcarin VP6. How is this fixed?
. . . . and is VR1AA (Gilbert Is) East, West or Central Kiribati?
. . . . furthermore "T3" is not listed in the ARRL DX Prefix list.
However T30, T31 and T32 are listed.
T3A to T3Z Kiribati
T3 Kiribati (including Gilbert, Ellice and Phoenix
Islands) 31 65
