Art, There can be dozens of explanations for this. You have a virus or malware. You have a memory or hard drive problem. You have something still processing in DXbase such as an internet connection locked up waiting for a response. You have some other application running in background conflicting with shutdown. You have a driver problem.... and the list goes on. I don't have any magic solutions except that you'll need to diagnose your machine.
