Hopefully this has been beaten to death long enough.  I am getting kind of
tired of deleting Emails!  I am sure Jack had his reasons for quitting, whether
financial due to poor sales or just lack of interest matters not.  Hams
traditionallly are cheap when it comes to software, and I suspect that there
are a lot more older versions of DXBase out there than newer ones.
I bought the releases as they came out without even looking at the features.
But, I am one of those "latest and greatest" kind of guys.  That is why I
bought Vista on the first day, and why I have preordered Windows 7.
So no matter what the reasoning, let Jack rest in peace for goodness sakes.  If
you still have the older versions of DXBase, too bad.  If you have the latest,
then use it in good health and good dx.  After all, DX IS!

Have a GREAT day!

Hold on a minute, that's a pretty broad brush you're using.

DXBase was unique in that the newer versions weren't bug fixes they were new
feature releases. Some folks liked what they had and made the decision to
not upgrade until a feature set they wanted was added. That makes perfect
sense; if it's not broke don't fix it.

In my case I was inactive and off the air from 2000 until this last summer.
I had set my priorities to getting back on the air over upgrading the
software but I had talked with Jack on the options. I'm up on the VHF/UHF
side but I still have work to do on the HF side (rebuild high SWR
tribander). So the money is still being rat holed for that project. Had I
known in advance I probably would have spent the money one last time to
upgrade.

IMHO the software became too feature rich. I know you can configure to your
liking but all I wanted was a LOG and Radio Control.  So now I wait like the
others to see what shakes out and if I want to stay with this product. It's
all on me.

I am mildly amused by the comments from the 'faithful fans' of Dxbase now
that Jack has closed his web site and discontinued sales of Dxbase 2007.
Which fans? , oh, the ones who are using, by their own admissions, OLD
versions from 2000, 2001, 2002 etc through 2006. Maybe if they had been
actually purchasing NEW versions, as have some of us, each year, a different
business decision could have been reached.

But, as is said, that's just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
