Dave N8DC et al: Brendan has given you the correct answer on this nagging problem! A few years ago I was really on the warpath regarding the inability of the ICOM series of radios to read the status of split. The radio has several pages of commands for everything imaginable, things you will never use, but misses this fundamental command. The other manufacturers who provide a computer interface and offer split do allow you to read the status of split. Without this capability if you read VFOa and VFOb, and you can do that, lets say VFOa comes back as 14195.00 KHz and VFOb comes back at 14002.00 KHz would it be correct to issue a spot of FT5GA 14195.00 QSX 14002.00? If course not! So without being able to request the radios status, i.e. is it currently in SPLIT or is it not, you can't generate a reliable spot.
This is not a DXBase problem...no logging program can do what is impossible. This ICOM problem is regularly complained about on other logging forums as well! I took it up with the ICOM USA manager, who was very receptive to my efforts and said he would contact Japan regarding it. This went on for a few years, and he told me at the Hamvention in Dayton that ICOM Japan simply ignores the issue. A close friend, who knows the President of ICOM Japan took the issue up with him, and it went nowhere. I could hardly believe it, now I know better, that when the 7800 came it out didn't correct the problem, and later radios also ignore it...but they do let you inquire about all kinds of useless information about the radios, such as the current position of the noise reduction knob! I have posted the issue to many ICOM forums as well. I have given up! No longer will I ever purchase an ICOM radio again! The current definitions for many of the ICOM radios in the radios.ini file were updated by myself, and Brendan also had a hand in polishing these. So in short it is hopeless, and aggravating! In just the last week when I have been working FT5GA and posting spots when I issue as spot thus: Output>Packet>Send Internet Spot I have to copy the contents of VFOa and paste to VFOb, and hand modify VFOa and send the spot. What a pain, and this results in errors and reluctance to post such spots. ICOM is hopeless! I think I will take a cold shower! Because ICOM's Protocol does not provide any way to read IF the rig is in Spilt TX or not, It can be set but not read. this applies to all of ICOM's radios, including the 7800, 7600 etc There is no command or sequence of commands that can be used to ascertain if the radio is currently in Split TX or not, you can read VFO B but you can't tell if it's the current TX VFO or not You can take this up with ICOM (as many have in the past 15 years or so..) but I suspect your request will fall on deaf ears -- 73 Brendan EI6IZ ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
