FYI and FWIW: I have apparently avoided many of the issues people have
running DXbase under Vista and Windows 7 by not letting the DXbase installer
put DXbase in the C:\Program Files directory. Instead I tell it to put it
in a directory of my choosing, which is not a directory that Windows
controls with its devilish schemes. In my case I install DXbase on my D:
drive, in D:\ham radio\dxbase.

( I understand there's an issue with the registry on 64-bit OS versions. I'm
running 32-bit Windows so I didn't encounter it.) (And I did have trouble
with the hosts file on Windows 7. Apparently Windows 7 doesn't have a hosts
file, so I just got the file from an old Vista backup and copied it into the
corresponding directory under Windows 7.)
