Instead I tell it to put it in a directory of my choosing, which is not a directory that Windows controls with its devilish schemes. In my case I install DXbase on my D: drive, in D:\ham radio\dxbase. ( I understand there's an issue with the registry on 64-bit OS versions. I'm running 32-bit Windows so I didn't encounter it.) (And I did have trouble with the hosts file on Windows 7.
