Hi Gary, Yes I have tried that and their is no difference. Since I last posted this problem I have compacted my data base, defragmented my hard drive, performed a complete virus scan of my hard drive. DXBase works fine when it is opened and I have tried to exercise the program as much as I can and it still works fine.
Prior to the above I backed up my .mdb file and noted that last time I had done that was June 2010. The size of the file at the time was a little over 7mb. On July 31 when I decided to back it up again prior to compacting .mdb the file had a size of 13mb. I have no idea how the file grew to such a large size in about two months. After compacting it the size is down to a little over 6 mb. Now when I close DXBase it will close but it takes one minute and 15 seconds to close. I never had to wait that long. This may be a clue that I have seen within the past few days. When I close down windows XP is also takes a very long time to close and now a window pops up and says "Do not shut down your computer" if you do you will lose opened files. So I wait and a box shown in this window starts to move left to right and when it gets to the right now the computer closes down. Its almost as though something in the closing procedure is not closing down when told or having trouble closing down. I have no idea.
