Your estimate is a little high but I understand your point (I stayed at a
Fairfield Inn) but including meals (why go unless you are going to a nice
restaurant) I spent out of my pocket about $1,000 or so. And I am not in any
amateur related business so like many thousands of people attending, I don't
go expecting ANY revenue, I go to see people, renew friendships, hear forum
presentations, see new products and ask questions of experts from companies
about products I use or might use in the future.

I attended the DARC "European" Dayton in Friedrichshafen and spent out of my
pocket more than I want to put in writing! As you likely know the
attendance is just a little less than Dayton but I go for the same reasons,
maybe with the present state of the US economy and the difficulties of
travel (I won't even go into the evils of the TSA) I might not go in 2012.

Sure not everyone can afford to go, I have no idea whether Jack made money
at Dayton or not, but he was always there in his booth. Heck almost all my
friends are always at Dayton, if I was NOT there they would probably assume
I was SK and they missed the announcement in QST.

Hi Larry

I doubt you will see a DXBase booth at Dayton. A booth cost $550 this year
if memory serves correctly. A hotel room is $100-200 a night, lets split the
difference and say $150. Transportation is another $150 (flight plus
parking).

So three nights in a hotel, transportation and booth charges equal $1150.
Now you know why there was only 1 Logging program with a booth at the show
this year (and I bet money he isnt there next year). Assuming I offer no
discount (which isn't very safe assumption), I would have to sell 23 new
licenses to break even (not even counting for my time).

I have always said that I didn't take DXB over to get rich but I surely
didn't take it over to lose a lot either. Just the cost of establishing the
programming environment for the 1.09 release was more than the entire
revenue I have made on sales. Again, I love doing it and its not an issue
for me, but throwing another grand at it with little residual income to
offset it isn't very wise.

If I go next year, it will be (again) to work at the Flex Radio booth where
my real income is derived. I was (and always will be) very happy to meet so
many DXB users there this year. If I go next year I will post it on the
reflectors so you can come by and chat, DXBase was actively being demo'ed at
the Flex booth as I set up the "Dream Station" exhibit and of course what
Dream Station is complete without DXB??

I think we have all been pretty patient for several years now. When was the
last time there was a Dxbase booth at Dayton where potential customers could
see the program in action and existing customers could ask questions in
person? Yes, there is good HELP available on this discussion group for
existing fans of the program, but it is not the same as it 'used to be' when
we could count on stopping by the "booth" in Dayton annually. I talked
several of my colleagues into purchasing Dxbase over the years by taking
them by the hand to a demo of the program so they could see the features.
